SKYRON Systems Inc. Awarded “Most Promising Energy & Clean Technology Company” at Rice Alliance Energy & Clean Technology Venture Forum
Beaverton, Oregon – November 11, 2009
With the societal and governmental interest in renewable energy, along with the need to strive for energy independence from foreign sources, there is a growing momentum in commercializing new energy solutions in the U.S. In the case of SKYRON Systems Inc., an Oregon-based renewable energy company seeking to open offices in the Houston Metro area, achieving an early entry into the marketplace allows the company to begin to fulfill demand from clients who have indicated their interest in being “early adopter” of its technology.
SKYRON was introduced to the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP) through its business connections in Texas and utilized the program to design a new cost-effective wind turbine braking system. The incorporation of this braking solution advances the commercialization of SKYRON’s multi-solution, vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) that targets a variety of field applications involving onsite generation solutions for urban and remote sites.
Through the SATOP program office, project RTA#3311 (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Braking/Control Mechanism) was initiated and Boeing was selected to be SKYRON’s engineering partner for this project. Boeing’s technical assistance in resolving this issue enabled the company to provide a solution that directly reduces the demand on legacy grid-produced energy, thus establishing SKYRON as a “solution contributor” for energy independence. This directly supports the renewable energy initiatives being pursued by President Obama.
The completion of this project has advanced commercialization of the turbine product and will result in the creation of numerous engineering and operational jobs over the coming year.

The firm was recently recognized by U.S. Congressman Brian Baird (D-WA) as a result of a recent site visit he completed to Renewable Energy Composite Solutions (RECS), SKYRON’s development partner located in Vancouver, WA. RECS was awarded a U.S. Department of Energy grant through the American Recovery and Investment Act for job creation and facility re-tooling using SKYRON’s turbine as the catalyst for transitioning the firm into renewable energy equipment manufacturing.
