Skyron Systems Inc. Emerging as a Northwest Renewable Energy Company
Beaverton, Oregon – November 11, 2009
In spite of the challenging economy, Skyron Systems Inc. is emerging as a new renewable energy company in the Pacific Northwest. “T. Boone Pickens has picked up the banner for wind energy by promoting the value of adopting an alternative generation source that decreases energy dependence in this country. But wind farms are only a part of the solution. There is a tremendous opportunity, on a global scale, to produce electricity at the point of use. We are excited to be commercializing a technology that addresses that opportunity,” said Brian Sheets, Skyron’s CEO.
The firm was recently recognized by U.S. Congressman Brian Baird (D-WA) as a result of a recent site visit he completed to Renewable Energy Composite Solutions (RECS), Skyron’s development partner located in Vancouver, WA. RECS was awarded a U.S. Department of Energy grant through the American Recovery and Investment Act, for job creation and facility re-tooling using Skyron’s turbine as the catalyst for transitioning the firm into renewable energy equipment manufacturing.
Bill Steele, Skyron’s CFO, states, “Funding a new company in this economic climate has been challenging. Yet, in spite of this, we were able to engender the confidence of a private investment group earlier this year in our technology and business approach. With this funding, we have been able to finalize our turbine for manufacturing and commercial launch.”
During product development, the Company completed numerous wind tunnel tests at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA and the Daimler facility in Portland, OR. In addition, Skyron has installed evaluation turbines at its test site in Oregon for real-world performance assessment. The Company began accepting purchase orders in October for its initial deliveries.
In late 2008, Skyron was named one of the Top Ten Most Promising Energy & Clean Technology companies at the 6th Annual Rice Alliance for Technology & Entrepreneurship Energy & Clean Technology Venture Forum held in Houston, TX at Rice University.
