Federal and state government agencies are embracing renewable energy as a means to augment their legacy grid usage, reduce costs, and ensure some degree of utility independence in the event of a cyber attack on the grid.
As an entity, the Department of Defense represents one of the largest users of wind power in the U.S., filling both commercial and remote field application requirements. As part of their effort to reduce utility expenditures, groups such as NASA are on a four-year program to retrofit all buildings to meet energy efficiency mandates and incorporate the use of alternative generation technologies.
A ruggedized version of Skyron’s commercial turbine is projected to have applications in remote military applications as well as other harsh environments such as off-shore navigation platforms and cold weather environments.
